Apparently there is a lot of drama going on around people’s Aion and Guild Wars accounts getting hacked. It’s the contention of the players that much of the blame lies with the NCSoft master account system.
An NCSoft master account keeps track of billing information and your accounts in several of NCSoft’s games.
It seems you can accidentally, with no skill necessary, log into other peoples master accounts. The forums are in an uproar, and the scandal is beginning to overtake the ‘people not being able to get hats‘ during the Wintersday Festival uproar.
Now there are other dramatic details, like NCSofts failure to do anything about it, Arenanets support staff in recent months blaming most hacks on third party fan sites instead of looking internally, and of course players going apeshit over every minor perceived injustice and “lies”.
According to their support people half the accounts that have been hacked do not have an NCSoft master account, and very few thefts are directly related to it. Arenanets assertion is that the hackers have lists of passwords. In my opinion this is most likely through keylogging.
At least we’re all going to get hats right?
