Taking the blog world by storm is the latest craze. Who do you write like? Just take your latest blog post, plug it in over here and boom, you’ll find out who you emulate.

I write like
James Joyce

I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

Having never read more than an excerpt from Ulysses I can’t say whether or not I actually write like James Joyce. I do find it vaguely insulting somehow that my style is reminiscent of someone born in the 19th century.

Apparently it only has about a dozen possible authors.

Who do my fellow bloggers write like?

Since everyone seems to be curious as to just how many authors I’d thought I’d update this with all the writers I’ve seen. I plugged in a different entry and got J.K. Rowling btw.

j.k. rowling
james joyce
stephen king
kurt vonnegut
dan brown
Chuck Palahniuk
H.P. Lovecraft
Raymond Chandler <- i would have loved to have gotten this
Mario Puzo
Ian Fleming
Margaret Mitchell
Margaret Atwood
David Foster Wallace
J. D. Salinger
Isaac Asimov
Arthur C. Clark
Nicholas Sparks
Charles Dickens
Agatha christie
Vladimir Nabokov
Edgar Allan Poe
Ursula K. Le Guin
Douglas Adams
Robert Louis Stevenson
P. G. Wodehouse
J.R.R. Tolkien
William Gibson

Thanks for the last 4 mmogc.

Apparently there’s a lot. I give up counting :( . And when I say a lot, I mean there’s a bunch more but I’m not going to continue adding them.

    TAKE THAT!

    • ulysses vs catcher in the rye

      Fight!

  2. Wait, wtf? You do NOT write like James Joyce, otherwise I would have thrown your blog (I guess my computer) across the room many times over trying to read it already. High school lit was hell because of him, I’ll be happy if I never have to touch another JJ book again.

As for me, I got Margaret Atwood. This might be deserving of a post on my own site…thanks for the cool link.

    • wow that is a visceral reaction to an author. I don’t know him well enough to hate him.

Margaret Atwood is kind of an awesome comparison.

  3. [...] I Write Like? July 15, 2010 Blog-related post here. I gotta hand it to Hunter, sometimes I find some pretty interesting things on his [...]

  4. Huh. I pulled James Joyce too. I think I get out a chaper of my book and try that instead.

    • heh i wonder if james joyce wrote in bullet points much…

  5. Dan Brown for me. /sob

    • its ok. I got 3 david foster wallaces, 2 jk rowlings, and james joyce. i am not happy to be compared to a childrens author like rowling.

  6. Ok so I may not be a blogger but I tried it out anyway. :P

    Kurt Vonnegut. XD

    • i’m not much of a vonnegut man. he’s written some supposedly amazing stuff though, breakfast of champions, slaughterhouse five.

      • Heh yeah I have only read slaughterhouse five and it was years ago. I have been told Cats Cradle is good though.

  7. Some other names I found for you, while playing around with my posts:

    Robert Louis Stevenson
    P. G. Wodehouse
    J.R.R. Tolkien
    William Gibson

    • why thank you kindly ma’am. yeah i kept adding them but, i was reading through some guys blog and he mentions half a dozen authors 4 of which I didn’t even recognize let alone have on my list, then I saw Tolstoy and kipling and was like, screw this. so last count is like 30ish? not even sure.

  9. i guess i write like a cross between Stephen King and Margaret Mitchell. oh well, at least i didn’t get Joyce ;)
