Following the Halloween content, it was mentioned on the official Guild Wars 2 forums that there would be a content update coming up in November unrelated to the festival.
Details of the content seem to be already leaking.
The greek distributor of Guild Wars 2 had this to say on their facebook page.
To Noemvrio be ready the next update for GuildWars 2, containing
- 3 day event to hide a mysterious threat
- A new island in the gaming world
- New PvE game mode
- New PvP features
That’s the google translate version anyway.
From the sound of things it seems like it might be an update along the lines of the Sorrow’s Furnace update from the original Guild Wars. That update included a zone, Grenth’s Footprint, and the dungeon itself of course, along with numerous quests, bosses, drops, and the first appearance of dredge.
As to what the above means, it’s hard to speculate. A 3 day lead up to an event or the events inside the zone take 3 days? They’ve spoken vaguely about one time events controlled by Arenanet in the future. Something like the dungeons opening up in WoW a few years back? A new island could be in the Sea of Sorrows or the Strait of Malchor. It also suggests underwater content. A new PvE game mode could be just about anything, Hard Mode doesn’t seem appropriate so I’m left wondering. They’ve been talking about what they’re working on in regards to PvP lately in a couple of posts on their website. This post from the 8th talks a lot about what they’re moving towards in the future.
Colin Johanson was the first to mention a November update in this forum post as far as I know.
A number of the activities/mini-games are things we decided to table for a while in favor of focusing on features and areas we felt were more important for the game. That being said, if you like activities, make sure to stop in and visit during the big Halloween festivities running from Oct 22nd-Nov1st!
In the short-term we’re currently focused on adding a massive wealth of additional content and features for players to do in the game using the players core skill-bar, which you’ll start seeing in the Shadow of the Mad King update in October as well as our massive November release.
Long term we’ll absolutely be adding more activities as well, but we want to make sure we’ve got loads of stuff to do at level 80 in PvP, WvW, and PvE using your characters core skill-bar first and foremost, and we’re dedicating our focus in that area. Down the road, we’ll continue to expand on the scope of activities available in the game as well.
So if you were wondering about activities like me, there you go. Sounds like the focus is definitely on PvE content and less mini-games. he definitely makes it seem the zone is for level 80 characters as well.
Hard to know what to wish for. I would love to see more Largos. I do not want to see any more undead, centaurs, or bugs. Some way to craft exotic aqua breathers and backpacks would be cool. Named bosses on timers or tied to events. I’d love to fight some hulked out quaggans, especially if they threaten to kick my tail so hard it slaps me in the face.
Most of all I just want Arenanet to keep doing what they’re doing.
