So far it’s being presented as a strange kind of tropical vacation destination. The various translations of posters and warnings seem to imply that we, as adventurers, will be cleaning out hordes of sea monsters and the like from a new map area.
Colin Johanson has described the map as a medium small map, not a full sized new zone. He also said it was more for fun, not an extension of end game content. There is a dungeon however which is meant to do exactly that.
Looking at the screenshots the coastline appears to be very jungly, very coastal, not unlike bloodtide or sparkfly. A lot of people are speculating that the space between Lion’s Arch and Kessex Hills could be the location of the new map. It looks as though the size is appropriate and would explain why we’re seeing the effects of the new zone in Lion’s Arch itself, such as the beached whales, warning signs, the headquarters for the consortium, etc. There is also an ideal location for a dungeon bordering this area, the Wizard’s Tower visible from southeast Kessex Hills. Long hinted at as a possible future dungeon location.
There are a couple of small problems with this theory but I am open to the idea. The new area has been referenced a couple of times as an island, the area next to Lion’s Arch is not an island. You probably wouldn’t need an asura gate to only go as far as the next zone over, very few gates lead to nearby locations. Finally I would say that vacation spots are typically thought of as a distant location, not next door.
Anyway this is all supposed to unfold with a patch on the 15th and a 3 day only weekend event that unveils the zone starting on the 16th. Honestly I have no problems with a 3 day only event as compared to a 30 second window for a festival, so that’s cool with me.
